I'M LAURA THE KEEPER
I’m Laura Kinney-Porter — a legacy worker, memory keeper, and family archivist. I document and preserve the stories of those who came before me, especially the Black women in my lineage who created lasting legacies.
My work is rooted in oral history, genealogy, and family photographs — all held together with passion, care, responsibility, and love.
What began with researching my late grandmother has grown into a lifelong commitment to preservation and truth-telling across both sides of my family.
This is my offering — guided by those who came before me.

Mattie Legacy Project
A research-based tribute to my grandmother, Mattie Bell Kinney — civil rights leader, health advocate, and community builder. This project preserves her story through archival work, interviews, and newspaper clippings.
Archive Submissions
A record of where my work has been submitted, featured, or exhibited — including archives, art spaces, and public history projects that honor Black family legacy.
Visual Memories
A creative journal blending photography, personal reflection, and legacy storytelling — inspired by my archival Instagram project, @keeperofallsides.

Before Care Had a System
Join us for the inaugural Before Care Had a System, a Breast Cancer Awareness Month community conversation inspired by Cincinnati leader Mattie Bell Kinney and her breast cancer advocacy.
The program will include a short documentary and guided conversation exploring breast cancer awareness, Black health history, medical trust, survivorship, caregiving, access to care, and community support.
